Anthrax And Asbestos Risk At Hammersmith, Claims RMT

The ever-combative RMT union have called for the complete closure of Hammersmith Tube station, claiming that anthrax and asbestos could be present. Refurbishment work in a station bar revealed potentially harmful building materials including horsehair - a constituent of plaster that can, in rare cases, carry anthrax spores. The area around the bar has been sealed off, and samples sent for further examination in accordance with standard industry practice. But RMT leader Bob Crow claims the response is inadequate, and has called for station closure to avoid a 'potentially extremely dangerous situation'.
