Preview: Them Crooked Vultures @ Hammersmith Apollo

The best photo we managed to snap of Josh Homme at the Reading Festival

All supergroups are not created equal. But one of the more equal ones has got to be Them Crooked Vultures. With Josh Homme leading the charge up front, Led Zep's John Paul Jones on bass and Dave Grohl (you know who he is, right?) drumming like a lunatic, it's been a while since we've seen so many big names come together on one stage.

So far, live appearances have been limited. They supported the Arctic Monkeys in Brixton last week and played a couple of not-at-all secret slots at the Reading and Leeds festivals over the weekend.

You haven't missed your chance to see them though, as they're coming back to London to play the Hammersmith Apollo on 17 December. We can't imagine that venue being anywhere near big enough to satisfy demand, so get ready to fight for your tickets.

Not sure what to expect? Well, along with thousands of others, we got to the stage early enough to see them in Reading and can happily report that if you're into heavy riffs, seriously loud guitars and the more intelligent sort of rock, you're in for a treat. In fact, just imagine the best bits of QOTSA, Led Zep and the Foos on stage together. That's about it.

The general sale starts here at 10am on Friday. Tickets will go fast, so get in on the dot.
