Buckingham Palace On Jazz Venue Shortlist

It's well known that after the end credits roll on EastEnders, Her Maj likes nothing more than laying Charlie Parker on the gramophone and clicking her fingers in time to the jazz-man's syncopated snare snaps. It runs in the family: her grandpappy dug Louis Armstrong, who performed regularly at Buckingham Palace. She'll be grooving to the news that her very own crib has been shortlisted as one of Britain's most important jazz venues. On the 50th anniversary of Miles Davies' Kind Of Blue, Brecon Jazz Festival set out to find the UK's most significant jazz locations, and the Palace made the cut, though it faces competition from venues like Ronnie Scott's and the short-lived, notorious Club Eleven. The winning venue will receive a plaque, and the respect of heads worldwide. It's believed that, should Buckingham Palace win, the Queen will throw open the doors for a barnstorming open-air concert performance by modern-day hepcat and incarnation of jazz's free-spirited soul, Jamie Cullum.
