In Pictures: Fire On Dean Street, Soho

Over 100 firefighters were called out to a blaze in Soho’s Dean Street this afternoon. Much of eastern Soho was cordoned off, including the westbound side of Oxford Street. Latest word is that the fire was caused by a faulty air conditioning duct at 76 Dean Street. No one is thought to have been injured in the fire. All images and video by M@.

    Saw this from my office window (I work at Blackfriars), wondered what it was.

    Not quite the air conditioner I’d want in an office but better that than if the fire was caused by a smoke detector !!

    During the higher temperatures last week, the facilities woman brought an air conditioner into our office, with the warning that we should keep an eye on it as it was liable to overheat and perhaps catch fire. We switched it off, deciding it was better to be be a little hot under the collar than boiled in our tanks, frankly.
