Review: The Hot House Maiden Melee

Puppini Sisters at the Hot House Maiden Melee

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We know this event happened a week ago but we simply had so much fun last Wednesday night (and Thursday morning!) that we’re just now getting over it. Yes, the Hot House Maiden Melee with its 1930s style of cheeky burlesque decadence and mandatory dress code (1930s black tie, tuxedos and furs) set at No 5 Cavendish Square (all three converted Georgian townhouse floors of it) was the bee’s knees! Indeed, Londonist was most impressed by the inspired performance of the 21st century’s answer to the Andrews Sisters, the Puppini Sisters. There was one particular stripper that kinda got under our skins too - Vavavoom!

Part of the reason the Hot House Review's promoters were able to throw such a spiffy Maiden Melee stems from their being awarded a £10,000 bursary through the Smirnoff Night Vision initiative which “aims to support the future of nightlife across the UK.” Now there’s a noble cause we have no problem getting behind!

For those readers that think you’ve got what it takes to host a swinging do, monthly bursaries of £2,000 are still available to anyone across the UK. Check the Night Vision Facebook page for details and for info about upcoming events.
