Unchained Mini-Guide to Lower Marsh

Nestled in the shadow of Waterloo Station, and a souvenir-programme's throw from The Old Vic, lies the historic market street of Lower Marsh. Most days you'll find the road lined with cockney-staffed stalls - but right behind them, in between the less glamorous high street names, you'll discover some of the quirkiest and most unique shops in the city (we don't think you'll find a licensed knitting shop anywhere else in London!) So if you find yourself around the Southbank this Easter-mas weekend, we recommend you take a small detour. Here are some of the highlights:

Greensmiths - A whole new concept in supermarkets. You'll find some of the best Unchained food shops under one roof.

I Knit London - A knitting supply shop by day. A place to drink alcohol and cross needles at night. Clickety-hic!

Crockatt & Powell - Isn't it good to buy books from people who are passionate about books? These guys live it.

Top Wind - Flutes, flute supplies and everything for anyone with a flute. Including some great banter.

Prophet - Unusual jewellery and funky furniture from a husband and wife team.

What the butler wore - Get that Life on Mars look with great vintage from the 60s & 70s.

Ian Allan Book & Model Shop - A specialist bookshop for transport enthusiasts. Anorak optional.

Radio Days - Not just vintage clothes. This place is a treasure trove of vintage housewares and magazines too.
