(P)review: Liminal: A Question of Position at Rivington Place

Liminal

Curated by Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) with support from the Department of Applied Social Sciences at London Metropolitan University, Liminal: A Question of Position opens tonight at the 2008 RIBA Award winning Rivington Place. With more than twenty artists investigating life in an “urban hub where culture, society and beliefs collide,” Liminal brings together a collection of large scale, mostly interactive, installations and films. The piece Frictions of Distance links Rivington Place with the French Cultural Centre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to “explore the issues of hybridity and telepresence”. Another work, Wall Ball is a series of screens making up a giant composite face. Visitors are invited to throw balls against the screens. Upon contact with the balls, panels change to reveal another facial feature, altering the composite.

Liminal: A Question of Position runs until 25 April at Rivington Place, EC2A 3BA. Pop in, make art with someone in Phnom Penh, throw some balls at random faces and check out Rivington Place’s squeakily new digs. Visit the Iniva and Rivington Place websites for more details and visiting hours.
