New Images Of Tate Modern Extension

Herzog & de Meuron’s revised plans for the Tate Modern extension were revealed a couple of weeks back, but only one image was available. The ever vigilant members of the London skyscrapercity forum have now uncovered additional perspectives. People who can tolerate PDFs may wade through the full plans here.

We’re impressed. The design is bold and modern while harmonising with the existing brick behemoth by Giles Gilbert Scott. The buildings are kindred to such a degree that the extension appears to have grown from the fabric of the original, as though reclaiming the word carbuncle for positive architecture. Tate Cyst, anyone?

It looks like something out of Bladerunner, still absolutely horrible. Why couldn’t they make a new extension that echoed Scott’s design for the original station?

    I propose: Tate Cancer-lump.

Another sci-fi reference – I thought it looked a little like this pyramid ship from Stargate.
