Waaaay back in June, when Londonist attended the Tapas Fantasticas event at the Old Truman Brewery, we enjoyed a rather succulent wedge of tortilla from one of the vendors: King’s Cross tapas bar and restaurant, Camino. Well, a couple of weeks ago we finally got around to checking out their digs for lunch.For our lunch, we went with the express menu’s two courses for £12, but in retrospect we’d have been fine with just one course. Our (fabulously savoury) fabada Asturiana (white bean casserole with chorizo, smoked pork belly and crispy mocilla) was surprisingly ample as a starter and the arroz cremoso de calasparra, setas y queso azul (creamy calasparra rice with wild mushrooms and picos blue cheese) was massively filling, if a little less delish than the fabada was. And, speaking of plenitude, check this out! When we asked for a glass of tap water, our waiter brought a jug and left it at the table for us (has he been reading these reviews?).
Tucked away in a quiet modern courtyard just off anything but quiet Pentonville Road, Camino (like its portions) is huge. It’s an agreeable space too (as long as the kitsch-y if-you-were-in-the-perfect-tapas-bar-in-Spanish-heaven-it’d-look-like-this theme works for ya). We’ll gladly visit Camino again.
