A friend once described Primrose Hill as an Unchained orgasm. And anyone who’s ever found themselves wandering down Regent’s Park Road will know this to be utterly true. This street is so flawless, with its quaint yet contemporary facades, everything preened to perfection. Shopping here is an altogether distinguished, understated and sophisticated affair. Expect oddly coloured school uniforms all over the show (we saw yellow polo necks under blue pinnies last time we were there) and dogs wearing collars more expensive than your mother’s wedding ring. Also expect lots of villagey neighbourliness that’ll make you feel like you’ve just entered a very worldly version of the Cotwolds – a millions miles from Camden.

Here’s a baker’s dozen of our favourite favourites:

The Studio Perfumery – Treat your nose to the finest French and Italian scents

Clifton – we really loved their Livingstones and leafy rug

Primrose Hill Books – nice people selling new and second hand books

Pamela Shiffer – loads of unusual knitwear and other gorgeous stuff

Sesame – loads of delicious organic goodness, mmm

Adam Simmonds – great frames and sunglasses for a uniquely bespecled look

Spice – shoes, glorious shoes

Richard Dare – kitchenware and gadgets for the stylish epicurean

Studio 8 – sophisticated boutique with some very interesting South African labels

Elias & Grace – for the most gorgeous of little darlings

Judith Michael & Daughter – vintage treasure trove with a tea room at the back (they'll also give you a complimentary glass of Prosecco with your afternoon tea if you mention Unchained when you book)

Fitzroy's – mother and daughter owned and run florist with a great selection of cards and candles too

Lost in Beauty – Dita von Teese meets Carrie Bradshaw in this beauty emporium
