As Thursday lurches towards an end, naturally thoughts turn to starting the weekend early. Rather than another tired trip to the pub, we can't think of a better way to do so than with minimal techno at the ICA. Ghostly International's Matthew Dear performs there tonight with his full band, Matthew Dear's Big Hands. Though we cannot personally attest to the size of Dear's hands, we do know that they are as equally nimble on the decks as they are warping the production console.

The mastermind behind the aliases False, Audion and Jabberjaw, Matthew Dear has been reinventing Detroit techno and injecting glitch onto the dancefloor for almost a decade. Although we've been fans for a long time, we have no idea what to expect from his sound receiving the full band treatment. The ICA web site, however, indicates that the event will be standing rather than seated in the theatre, so we take that as a good sign. After a Thursday night dance, Friday should slip by relatively unnoticed.

Matthew Dear's Big Hands, 12 June 2008 at the ICA, The Mall, London SW1Y 5AH. Cost: £10.
