The Snooty Fox is a perfect lazy, lounging Sunday afternoon boozer. Tucked away by Canonbury Station away from the hustle of Islington the kitchen serves up bountiful roasts all day in a chilled out and convivial environment.

Service at the bar can be sanity-threateningly slow so make sure you're ready to order food and drink in one go and preferably don't ask for a complicated cocktail - even Bloody Mary's can be a bit of a challenge. Once the order's in though, and you're sat browsing the newspapers or putting on a tune on the ancient, marvellous 7" original juke box it's proper Sunday time and delicious cooking smells waft over from the open kitchen as you whet your appetite on a glass of house wine (pretty good), prosecco (brilliant - get a bottle) or pint of Red Stripe or Landlord.

Roasts rule on Sundays with a choice of lamb, beef, chicken or pork. Vegetarians get short shrift - quiche really doesn't cut it alongside these meat focused dinners. It looks especially lame next to the Full Bifter - a little bit of everything that's been roasted up that day. Plates arrived heaped with nicely cooked meat, flooded with gravy and crowned with a Yorkshire pud and several potatoes. Vegetable relief arrives in the form of a side bowl of greens and carrots with a full array of condiments to choose from.

For a starter or light meal, try freshly shipped in oysters and a half pint pot of prawns. The edamame beans are also great to nibble on and stave off the hungers.

This is good pub grub with a hint of homestyle comfort but professionally churned out at any time of the afternoon. Sit back, digest and while away your Sunday in Highbury's loungiest, most affable and least pretentious pub.
