Tuesday TfL News Round Up

Langdon Park DLR station opened yesterday, to initially no fanfare, until Ken turned up with some free Oyster cards.

Diamond Geezer has blogged in heartfelt detail about the "shiny alien mothership" lighting up a neglected, marginalised area. Langdon Park now easily links up with Canary Wharf and Stratford, where a second platform was also officially opened yesterday, possibly anticipating the immediate influx of people escaping Tower Hamlets for a day.

TFL are consulting about tarting up another, neglected but far more affluent area - Highbury and Islington Station. Highbury Corner is a scruffy and strangely bleak place topping off Upper Street and the station suffers from congestion and idiotic interchange routes between the Over and Undergrounds. Public consultation about redevelopment plans runs until 14 January and you can have your say here.

If you're making plans to leave the capital for the Christmas holiday then do take note of the following: Victoria Underground station is going to be shut from 22 December until 6 January for asbestos removal. So if you're heading for the Gatwick Express, remember to take an alternative route or leave yourself time for the bus. Also, Liverpool Street station will also be closed from 22 December to 2 January so let's hope engineering works to replace a railway bridge go to time and don't muck up the big NY return to work, although we don't want to think about that just yet.

This was open on Sunday night - my flatmate and I went through it on a Stratford train and were all "WTF?" - good to see more transport links in the area, though.
