We recommended memberships to various arty places as Christmas presents earlier this week, but in terms of things you can wrap and place under the tree, how about a few things from the big art galleries and museums themselves? Presents can range from hideously expensive and valuable to stocking fillers at £5 or under. Combine a bit of culture with your Christmas shopping with this selection:
From the Tate galleries, you can order a favourite painting to be printed on to high quality paper or canvas, have it framed and delivered to the lucky recipient from the Art on Demand series. Or, give a budding Monet Art in a Box and encourage a youngster to create their own painting. We also like the range of cameras on offer, any one of which would be a joy to give and / or receive: choose from fish eye, pin hole, Lomolito and Action Sampler.
Rather fabulous designer gifts can be found at the V&A shop in the Cherry on the Cake collection which brings together designers, ideas and products in limited edition, very nice things. We particularly like the lace coffee mug and the Swarovski chandelier necklace. There's a fantastic range of Green Gifts at the Natural History Museum. We're especially tickled by the poo-poo paper range - elephant dung is a gift! There's a very definite trend for green, sustainable, environmentally friendly gifts here, so keep browsing. And... dinosaurs. Lots of dinosaurs. Excellent presents. For those who like dinosaurs.
And last but not least of the big gallery and museum shops, there's the Science Museum shop. You can get anti-gravity boots, rockets, football playing robots and... and countless other cool things. They're all educational, and not all for kids.
