Santa's Lap: London Soundmaps

Dusting off the snow from last year, every day this month the Londonist team will be pointing you in the direction of a Christmas present that (with a bit of luck) you won't already have on your list. Climb up onto our collective lap and we'll see what we can move from our sack to your stockings..

Even seasoned Londoners like learning more about their home city. We're proof - we put our own walks. So we were very excited to find out about the clever people at Soundmap who have created audio walks for you to buy online and download to the MP3 player of someone you love.

Priced at a measly £5.99 you can explore Camden, Brixton, the Kings Road and Soho in the company of a personality with close ties to the area with contributions from locals and site-specific sounds and music. It's a shame that they chose Robert Elms to do Camden but Max Décharné's dulcet, husky tones makes us want to get down and dirty on the Kings Road straight away.

Imagine finding this on your iPod on boring old Boxing Day when you can't face the sales. Magic. For the person who has everything, this just might make their Christmas.

Oh! And Soundmap donates 5% of profits to St Mungo's this year. So you can feel good giving this gift too. Buy online and download the walks here.
