After a quick break travelling the US, this Londonista is back to normality bringing the weekly roundup of whats happening in London.
Monday night sees Oakland metal stars High on Fire grace UL. Tickets are available for £12 each on the door or from See tickets. Reformed 90′s Brit rockers Shed Seven grace Shepherds Bush Empire, with a few tickets left at £17.50 each, if you really must indulge your nostalgia. Finally, Scritti Politti plays The Luminaire. Most tickets are gone, with a very few left.
Spice Girls play their last night of 2007 at the O2 on Tuesday night, however don’t fret – they’ll be back for most of January. It seems that Tuesday is big gig night – Hard-Fi also play Wembley Arena (tickets £25 each) and The Pogues play Brixton Academy.
Bruce Springsteen plays the O2 on Wednesday night, which, like the Spice Girls and Pogues, is supposedly sold out. If you fancy something a bit smaller, James Yorkston plays the Luminaire (tickets £11.50 here or here). Finally, progressive rockers Hawkwind play their progressive psychadelic rock at the Astoria. Tickets are £20 from We Got Tickets.
Thursday sees Patrick Wolf start the first of two sold out nights at Shepherds Bush Empire. Former Nightwish leader and all round Finnish star Tarja Turunen plays the Electric Ballroom – tickets are £20 each from See Tickets. If you want something really small, Coliseum play their hardcore punk at Bar Academy Islington, with £8 tickets still available.
Come Friday everyone’s going to be going back home for Christmas, so why not stay around in the capital for an extra day, avoid the travel chaos and catch a new band you might not otherwise? Reverend and The Makers grace Fabric, Newcastle heavy rockers The Wildhearts play the Astoria, whilst finally The Men They Couldn’t Hang bring their folk-punk-rock to the 100 Club.
We always recommend ethical gig trading site Scarlet Mist as your first port of call for tickets particularly when they’re sold out, so check them out and beat the touts. Failing that Gumtree is always a friend.
