Although the official clock in Stratford told us that this was the case back in December, it is now actually 2012 days until the 2012 Olympics.

However, Colin Jackson's hopes aren't high. In an interview with the Guardian, the former 110m hurdles world record holder said,

It's going to take a miracle for anyone to win a British gold in track and field at the 2012 Games in London.

D'oh.

Jackson has recently become unpaid coach to Tim Benjamin and Rhys Williams, two young Welsh athletes who are our hopefuls for the 400m and 400m hurdles. When he began training with them, he was "shocked and horrified",

I told them it had been a long time since I had been with people who were so poor and such beginners.

Way to boost morale Colin.

I said no wonder you're both flaming injured all the time. You've got no strength and can't touch your toes properly.

Can't even touch their toes properly... From standing, Colin can touch his toes with his nose.

Jackson also blamed the sport's governing body, UK Athletics, saying that they should make the most of the expertise of former British stars.

Sally Gunnell just seems to be sitting at home now and she could be used to inspire young girls. Linford [Christie] also has lots to offer - but these icons haven't been properly asked by UK Athletics.

We can't think of anyone less inspiring than Sally Gunnell, but if anyone can save us, it is Linford (even though he win be banned from the Olympic village because of his failing of a drugs test in 1999)

Anyway, we take Colin's harsh words with a pinch of salt. This Londonist was in school with Tim Benjamin and he was really fast. Proper fast. School record and everything. Gold here we come.
