Today and tomorrow
The Radox Experience the Elements event in Russell Square is running today and tomorrow and is a Radox-sponsored free two-day event for punters to have a brief fling with extreme sports. A 10 metre climbing wall and a skydiving simulator transforms Russell Square into an adrenaline hotspot, which makes quite a change for this part of town; the general public's pulse is usually only quickened by the prospect of Egyptian mummies in the nearby British Museum. In case the very thought of skydiving makes you sweaty, Radox is giving away free samples of Radox Daily Elements Deodorant - so even if you feel the fear when faced with a 10 metre climbing wall, at least you won't smell of it. It's the last Friday of the month, which means... the V&A Late, this month's being based on the current Twilight exhibition, Twilight: Photography in the Magic Hour. From 6.30pm, you'll be able to have your photo taken on special "twilight" sets designed by Richard Lewisohn, then you can proceed to iPod tours around the exhibition, lectures with participating artists and a special demonstration from Apple on using Apple Aperture for your digital photography. Bars, food and DJs are available thorughout the evening - take a camera, take your iPod, bring friends. It means hanging around outdoors but if you're up for that, the Portrait of London event is the London Film Festival celebrating 50 years with a special event in Trafalgar Square. By combining the potential of the digital medium with big love for our fair city, Mike Figgis has been put in charge of a group of specially selected artists and filmmakers, all of whom have contributed digital postcards that celebrate London and at the same time show what potential for cutting edge, high quality filmmaking is available here. Okay, it means going back to Trafalgar Square and hanging around in potentially bad weather but you gotta go if you want to celebrate Eid in the Square. The first ever celebration of Eid ul-fitr in Traflagar Square will see the place filled with Muslims marking the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. A main stage with live entertainment, a street bazaar, exhibitions adn displays will be part of the celebrations. Eid in the Square, Trafalgar Square, 1.00pm until 5.00pm, Saturday 28 October, free.
