Re-reading this before putting it live, we're struck by how many very fine gigs and events there are on this week (as well as how bad our spelling is) and that's just the ones we know about. Promise us you'll go to at least one of them. We're sure you'll have a good time.
Tonight: LA singer / songwriter, and one half of folk duo the Les Shelleys, Angela Correa will be at the 12 Bar Club on Denmark Street from 9 alongside Harold Crisman , Cormack Heron, and others.
Friday: It's good to see our old buddies Kaibosh back on the road with some force already this year. They'll be at Goldsmiths Student Union at 9 as part of a Criminal Records line up. £6 on the door and it's from 7 till 3. Because you can never have too many great rock bands in your life.
Saturday: If you're not off to the Kano show then perhaps we might tempt you with The Colonies who will be playing for free at the Notting HIll Arts Club at 6, followed, of course, by a Salsa evening. Or maybe you'd rather check out something along the pop-funk lines with CoCo Electric at Mish Mash at Cargo.
Monday: Raison D'Etre has been described asLondon's premier rendezvous for music & Art lovers in the know, a serious musical happening renowned for pulling together the worlds leading underground & independent music, it attracts like-minded creative souls, down to earth people, creative media types, factory-working music lovers, film stars and pop stars alike.. and tonight celebrates it's 4th birthday. Happy Birthday R D'E folks. There's going to be a mixture of ska, rhythm n blues, soul, jazz, funk, roots, rockabilly, nu jazz, and more from the likes of: 9 Tons Peanuts Smugglers, Dj Yvan Healer Selecta, Delphy, Portico Quartet, Dj Cosmic Keith, Marcel Permanent Wave And Matt Lloyd. Plus a few birthday surprises. It's a tenner to get in and all takes place up at the Jazz Cafe. It's very nearly sold out now so get your tickets in quick and enjoy.
Tuesday: There seem to be a few Soulfly tickets kicking about, and since we haven't recommended anything this year that's guaranteed to make you pee yourself out of fear, then this evening's Astoria gig has to be the one. Be afraid etc...
Wednesday: Wednesday's a tough one for you. Three prime choices, all winners, no losers, only you have to decide which show you'll be at. First off one of London's premier anti-folk clubs (that's not a place where you burn beardies in sweaters by the way), Blang hits 49 at the 12 Bar Club, Denmark Street. A stirling line up includes Belt Motel , Pete and the Pirates, Sergeant Buzfuz, Kevin 2 Sheds and Milk Kan. That's a lot of really good bands for a fiver. Doors at 7.30, bar till 1.
Then you have The Sways, we've told you about them before, at Spitz along with a flamenco gypsy-jazz guitar group called Trio Gitano, and a singer-songwriter, Alice McLaughlin. You should really be thinking about going to this one too.
And should you find you have the ability to be in three places at once, then you'll also have a ticket to see Last Man Standing at Madame Jo Jos. If you remember our Polyphonic Spree review from last year, and well done you if you do, then you'll remember we made a quick but honorable mention of the rather fine Last Man Standing, who it turns out are from London.
