Another Wednesday, and another salvo fired in the war between those who say 'Midweek' is one word and those who say 'Mid Week' is two words. (Don't even get us started on the 'it's hyphenated' brigade.) In this week's round up: Grass, Death, Folk and Scandinavians.
Pick of the gigs in the not-quite spam we received in our inbox is next Monday's gig at Koko: Supergrass, supported by Thirteen Senses, are playing as part of the set of gigs sponsored by a company specialising in products containing legal intoxicants. If you're a fan of the old school Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it's well worth visiting the Supergrass website if you haven't been for a while.
It looks like a fun time before that at Koko, though, with a couple of death-related evenings. Tomorrow night, for a measly fiver, you can see Dogs Die In Hot Cars, who are supported by Fans of Kate, Si Connelly and Mohair. Ticketweb is your place to go for advanced bookings, not that you've got much time between now and the gig.
Friday sees the regular Club NME night which features Death From Above 1979. Given the recent death of a man who fell from a first floor balcony onto the dancefloor at Club NME we can't help feeling it's somewhat insensitive to be putting this particular band on, but it's not our call. Metric join the aforementioned unfortunately-monikered band in playing live. Mikey Four of Misshapes keeps the sounds going when those acts aren't on.
Currituck Co. bring their take on the new American folk scene to Europe this week. The Track & Field Organisation describe them thus: "Close friends of Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Antony and the Johnsons, Currituck Co harness John Fahey's method and Gram Parsons' melodies as well as subtle acoustic-pop musings of Elliott Smith." Could they drop any more names into that sentence? Sounds good to us, though. For a slightly more useful way of finding out if you'd like them, you can find MP3s on the Currituck Co. website (scroll down when you get to the main page, it's somewhere halfway down).
If you like what you hear, Currituck Co. are playing a few dates in London as part of the Twisted Folk tour in June. 3rd June sees Vetiver, M. Ward and Currituck Co. taking to the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. The next day sees the same venue playing host to Vetiver, Micah P Hinson and Currituck Co. Tickets for both nights are £15 and can be bought by phone (08700 500 511) or online at www.lyric.co.uk. There are no sneaky compulsory booking fees doing it this way. Hurrah!

The Leaf Label are the bunch who look after Colleen, whose new album The Golden Morning Breaks we love, as we said in our review on Monday. Not a label to pander to the masses, they also look after Efterklang, who are kind of a more accessible and less bonkers version of Sigur Rós. You can judge for yourself on the Efterklang site where MP3s are available or take a punt and just go to their gig at the ICA on Friday 3rd June.
