Perhaps the most atmospheric, evocative pub in the area, the Plume of Feathers has managed to keep its charms quiet. We lived a few streets away for a year, and never stumbled across it. Millions of tourists circulate 5 minutes' walk a way, and yet rarely trouble its doors. Yet step inside and you'll find yourself in one of the most relaxing bars around.
It's a proper locals place with its own football team and golf society, but all-comers will get a warm welcome. The beer and wine choice is strictly mainstream, but we've no problem sinking yet another Doom Bar in a cosy place like this. A separate dining room serves inexpensive pub classics and Sunday roasts beside a proper fire.
Quiz night is Wednesday, on a fortnightly basis.
