This pub was voted one of the best in Ealing by Londonist readers.
While the crowds flock to the neighbouring Castlebar for its fun-loving atmosphere, the discerning drinker might instead investigate the Star and Anchor. The interior is comfortably furnished, with leather seating grouped into semi-partitioned areas. A medium-sized beer garden out back offers an al fresco option, if you can handle the frequent noise of the Ealing flight corridor.
The pub is tied to Heineken, which explains the thrusting chill pumps on the bar. Sadly, the owners limit the landlord to just two draught ales. These are regularly changed, however, and offer something more interesting than yet-more Doom Bar. To counter this annoyance, the pub instead stocks a beefy selection of bottled ales. Bar manager Ash knows his stuff, and is happy to recommend from the daunting inventory. Unusually, the bar also offers a selection of cigars, which are a tempting indulgence given the beer garden out back.
