Book swaps in pubs are rare enough, but to find one in an airport bar is positively inspired. It's one of the many neat touches at the Three Bells, a drinking option in Terminal 3 from the Geronimo chain.

Located directly above the Virgin check-ins, it's the most relaxed airport pub we've ever been in. The comfortable decor beloved of this chain is in no-way toned down for the travelling masses — although the apparently real fire is merely a digital projection.

It's a large place with a couple of separate dining areas, plus plenty of smaller tables for the solo traveller. The beer choice is unremarkable — the standard old Doom Bar and Young's on our visit — but we're nevertheless impressed to find such a pleasant spot inside one of the world's busiest airports.
