Part of our Best Pubs in London microsite. See if we've included your local.
It would be almost a crime to use Streatham Common station without popping into its attendant pub. The Railway is smart, both inside and out, geared up for families and dining, but without alienating drinkers. The latter will find five ale pumps, all London local on our visit. This attention to local sourcing extends to the food, helping the place win Sustainable Pub of the Year 2014.
There are two main areas. The front bar is best for those who simply want a pint, while a tea room area lurks round the back. To the very rear, you'll find a small library with over 500 books. Look out, too, for baby morning groups. Could a pub be any more community-focussed?
Regular comedy and craft nights as well as a quiz (Tuesday) cement The Railway as a local favourite. The blue hues are shared by its sister pub in Peckham, the Montpelier, which is another bastion of locally sourced food.
