This pub is part of our Best Pubs in London microsite. Did your local get listed?
For many years, this spacious pub went by the seemingly Tube-riffing name of The Angelic (though also referencing the Derek Jarman film The Angelic Conversation). It's since reverted to the more conventional, though historic name of the George IV. This also has tenuous Tube connections, given that Georgie boy was the monarch behind the name of King's Cross, down the hill, but we digress.
The George still has many of the flamboyant trappings of the Angelic, with oddball furniture and a couple of nudesby statues near the toilets. (Themselves a little odd, retaining the Angelic's peculiar water feature at the foot of the stairs.)

The place has moved from a slightly-off-brand-hipster vibe to a more down-to-earth, local feel. I mean, they've now got a carpet. And an old, drunk man in the corner. Still, a very pleasant place to drink, even if the ale choice is a bit mainstream.

Head upstairs and you'll find yourself in a very different environment. This cosy, comfortable drinking space comes with plenty of candle-lit tables and a ceiling that looks like it was nabbed from a Lombardy church.
Images below are from the previous incarnation of The Angelic. We leave them in for the sake of posterity.
