Part of our Best Pubs in London microsite. See if we've included your local.
There are surprisingly few pubs named after medieval monarchs in London. This would boss them all, perched on a hill with a mighty fine collection of worthy attributes.
It's a very smart affair. A recent refit stripped out the floral seat covers for a more countrified vibe of browns and burgundies. The spacious conservatory, by contrast, is utterly modern and one of the smartest in town.
That same refit also embiggened the pub. It's expanded sideways to incorporate what was once the Greenwich Union next door. That all means plenty more room for drinking... and dining. This is an excellent choice for a hearty pub meal, with an emphasis on best-of-British.
The crowning glory comes in the shape of a generously sized beer garden, replete with heaters and awnings for winter, or the notorious British summer. A number of Young's ales are on draught, along with a couple of guests, including London microbreweries.
