The best pub in Lee, we reckon...though there's not much competition, and most Londoners probably haven't heard of Lee...so we've popped this one into the Lewisham section. The Northbrook is a splendid example of the middle-class gastropub, which pushes a friendly atmosphere with excellent grub. It all used to be so different. The drinking den won News Shopper's Grotty Toilet award in 2011. A year later, and things had done a remarkable about-turn. That same eccentric publication gave the pub its Golden Pint award.
We wouldn't go quite that far. The Northbrook is a smashing boozer with five real (local) ales, superb food (as you can see from the pics) and a buzzing atmosphere, but it is all a little bit too similar to a hundred other places across London. That said, we'd be happy to have it as our local, especially if the pub quiz is always as winnable as the one we almost entered on our last visit.
Quiz night is Wednesday.
