A long-time locals and hipster favourite, the Birdcage recently changed hands to become part of the Draft House empire. Veterans of the chain's other bars are in for a surprise. The Birdcage looks like a normal, old-fashioned pub, packaged in wood rather than sporting a sleek modern interior like those favoured at other branches. The beer range is impressive, if not quite so broad as sister pubs. There's no vast beer menu here, but it's certainly better than what went before, especially when you consider the bottles range. A selection of ready-mixed cocktails sounded tempting. Overall, it's a sensitive relaunch, keeping the features of old while smartening up the drinks offering. Expect to see plenty of freelancers with Macs in here during the day.
