New Tube Map Released Featuring Battersea Power Station And Nine Elms
Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms both land in zone 1, which some are questioning

A new tube map has been unveiled, featuring two brand new Northern line stations, opening on Monday 20 September.

The map — which marks the first new Northern line stations for 80 years — shows the line extending out westward from Kennington to the freshly-built Nine Elms station, before drooping off at Battersea Power Station (station).

Both new stations are in zone 1 — something that's sparked debate on whether they belong there, or if a spot of gerrymandering has taken place in order to, among other things, raise the value of properties in the area.

Vauxhall station, for instance, is more central than the two new stations, but only gets zone 1/2 status.

Nevertheless, we should be happy. Both stations are fully accessible, and TfL claims it's delivered the extension £160m under budget — something it won't be able to say about Crossrail.

The updated map has already started appearing in stations and on trains, and will also be available as a pocket map featuring cover artwork from Helen Cammock.
