Is it really any surprise?

Stansted is the worst airport in the UK for delays and cancellations, according to research from Compare the Market. Of 26 major airports in the country, Stansted comes bottom of the table — with 1.4% of its flights cancelled, and average delays of 30.35 mins.

In all, 74.8% of flights at Stansted are delayed or cancelled.

Ryanair might have something to do with that: Stansted is the biggest base the low-fare airline has, and the research shows Ryanair to be the fourth worst airline for delays and cancellations in the UK — 76.64% of its flights are affected.

Then again, the outright worst airline for delays and cancellations in the UK — a staggering 84.84% of flights affected — is TAP Portugal. Interesting, as the airline serves Heathrow, Gatwick and London City, but not Stansted.

The best airport? Durham Tees Valley: 31.65% of its flights are affected by delays or cancellations. Which is good, apparently. We might recommend flying out from here in future. But let's face it, the train to Durham will either be delayed or cancelled.
