Here's a map of average salaries in workplaces close to tube stops in central London.
The research, carried out by job search site Adzuna, looked at almost 250,000 vacancies across the capital.
Key findings from the map
- Employers near Barbican tube station pay the highest average salary: £52,700.
- The top 10 highest paying tube stations are in zone 1. Average salaries around Barbican, Monument, Bank, Cannon Street and St. Paul's all top £50k.
- Advertised salaries for vacancies near zone 1 stations paid £45,982 on average — £13k more than jobs near zone 2 tube stops (combined average salary: £32,611).
- Salaries near tube stops generally get lower the further from the centre you travel. Zone 8 stations are the exception.
- The lowest paying tube stop is Uxbridge (combined average salary: £21,786)
More findings
- The Waterloo & City the most lucrative line (£50,990) — thanks largely to the number of high-paid finance related jobs in the area. Still, the average salary around Waterloo is a modest £27,443.
- The least lucrative line is the Victoria (£29,056).
- The West London areas of Kensington and Knightsbridge may be renowned for their high-end shops, and multi-million pound houses, but the average salary here falls way below £30k.
As with all these things, the map should be taken with a pinch of salt. Adzuna's job search engine is not comprehensive; if you took into account salaries for shops, foods chains and the like — it'd be a different story.
