9 Geeky Ways To Meet New People In London

This is a sponsored article on behalf of Thinking Bob.

Who'd have thought it — in a city this big, it's actually pretty damn difficult to meet somebody new. But us Londoners, we're a friendly bunch really, aren't we? And there are plenty of us looking to meet new people, too. You just need to know where to look...

So why not give Thinking Bob a try? Think of it as your ready-made social circle, with members ranging from 20 to 40 years old, and more than 60 events and socials to choose from each month. Your first month of membership is completely free, and once you've attended your first signature social — a relaxed get-together hosted by Team Bob — you're welcome to fill up your diary with as many events as you'd like.

Check out nine of our favourite geeky get-togethers coming up:

1. Tubeopoly Treasure Hunt

Here's a tube journey with a difference: hunt for treasure in the subterranean world of the London underground. You'll get matched up with your team buddies when you arrive, and there's plenty of time for a debrief in the pub after you've flexed that mental muscle.

This event takes place on 7 April. Click here for more info.

2. Bob Does Pointless - Gameshow Night

We've all seen Richard Osman work his magic on Pointless — so if you're one of those people who sits at home screaming answers at the TV, why not come and do it for real? Work with your new teammates to score pointless answers and cash in as few points as possible. The winners? Whoever scores closer to zero!

This event takes place on 23 March. Click here for more info.

3. Historic Pub Crawl

Erm, did somebody say pub crawl? We're already in. The classic British boozer is a national institution, and London is full of them — join your host on a crawl around Notting Hill's best watering holes, each with an interesting story to tell, and plenty of time for conversation, too.

This event takes place on 15 March. Click here for more info.

4. Artistic London: Turner and Constable

Feel lost the moment you step inside an art gallery? You're not the only one. See things differently with this accessible tour of Tate Britain, focusing on only a select few important artworks — learn a bit about the artist, the style and techniques employed and why it might be considered a masterpiece.

This event takes place on 18 March. Click here for more info.

5. Cards Against Humanity Night

Cards Against Humanity is a card game for horrible people, but don't worry — there couldn't be a friendlier bunch to play this twisted party favourite with! Join the group for a night of devilish yet hilarious fun, that is only as despicable as you and your fellow bobbers dare to be...

This event takes place on 20 March. Click here for more info.

6. Escape Rooms

You ought to be quick with this one — these sell out nights see you team up with other bobbers to solve clues and work your way out of a themed room, filled with plenty of cryptic clues to get the mind ticking. Good conversation starter? You bet: working with your team is a necessity if you want to make it out in time!

These events take place monthly. Click here for more info.

7. Poker Night with Jezz

Think of yourself as a bit of a card shark? Been practising that poker face? Pull up a chair, pour yourself a drink, and flaunt those skills at this intermediate level, low stakes, poker night. Beginners might want to give this one a miss, but you don't need to be an expert to join in.

This event takes place on 26 March. Click here for more info.

8. Pub Philosophy

Let's be honest, what pub session doesn't get philosophical once you've necked a few pints? No academic background necessary here: all you need is an open mind and an opinion. This week, discuss the dilemmas raised from living in a world where big data is increasingly impacting on our everyday lives.

This event takes place on 4 March. Click here for more info.

9. Book Club: Catch up on the Classics

Literary lover or novel novice, all are welcome at this friendly book club. Each week, catch up on a book from that elusive list of titles you've 'always meant to read'. What's next? Well, that's up to you. At the end of the session, you and your new reading buddies will pick the next book.

This event takes place on 27 March. Click here for more info.

Nothing that takes your fancy? You can check out the full social calendar here. Thinking Bob isn't just geeky get-togethers, you know — this fun-loving lot love drinks and a dance, too. Plus, over 40s are welcome at all Spice London events.
