Like to knit/crochet while watching a film? There's a cinema for that.
Throwley Yard Cinema in Sutton — featured in our list of London's top independent cinemas — hosts its inaugural 'Knitflix' night on Thursday 27 February. The idea, quite simply: folks are invited to bring along their needles and yarn, and get crafty in front of the big screen. Knit one, Pearl & Dean one, if you will.
As for the movie? Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy — perhaps one or two attendees will show up in their finest reindeer knitwear. The screening is followed by a chance to meet and mingle with other knitting enthusiasts. Presumably that's the 'chill' part of the experience.
The south London cinema tells Londonist it hopes Knitflix will be a monthly occurrence, though no more events are confirmed at this time. We did wonder how many movies actually feature a knitting scene — a quick YouTube search revealing quite a lot actually, including Breakfast at Tiffany's and Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel. Surely a Wallace and Gromit movie marathon (the latter adores his knitting) is a shoo-in too. That would leave the audience in stitches.
