This Urban Garden Show Proves You Can Get Green-Fingered In The Pokiest Of Places

If you're lucky enough to live within the hustle and bustle of London, you know that ample living space is a precious yet scarce commodity. With many flats in the capital lacking even a living room, it's pretty unlikely that you've got a sprawling garden to fill. But that shouldn't stop you from letting a whole lot of greenery into your life.

That's where the RHS London Urban Garden Show comes in. From 26-28 October, the Royal Horticultural Society's iconic Lindley and Lawrence Halls will be stuffed with brilliant ideas for transforming the teeniest of spaces into your very own urban oasis.

Growers from all over the UK are selling an eclectic assortment of tropical houseplants, seasonal blooms and spring flowering bulbs. If you're a sucker for succulents and cacti, you'll be pleased to know that Peckham's massively popular Green Rooms Market are bringing the city's best botanical businesses to the venue.

So whether you're looking to spruce up a small courtyard or balcony, or need something that'll thrive in the little corner of your flat that's looking a bit bare, you're sure to find your perfect pot — as well as plant-themed arts and crafts.

There's more to the show than shopping, though. Boost your green-finger credentials with talks, workshops and demos, including Mr Plant Geek Michael Perry's weird and wacky plant show, mini aquascaping, and a primer on garden edibles complete with tasters. And don't forget to check out the interactive and experiential art installations from the likes of Bompas & Parr. Pop on a pair of night vision goggles, enter their pitch-black Library of Shadows: A Garden of Fear and discover a world of fluttering pollinators and lush foliage.

The fun begins on Friday with a special late event, featuring DJs, cocktails and free workshops, it's got all the making of a great (not to mention oxygen-rich) evening out.

After that, there's two more days of horticultural happenings right at the cutting edge of urban gardening. So, if you fancy transforming your city pad into a haven of houseplants and stylish botanical art, consider it a must-visit.

RHS Urban Garden Show takes place Friday 26-Sunday 28 October 2018 at RHS Lindley Hall and Lawrence Hall in Westminster. Tickets cost £5-£9 per day and can be purchased here. Visitors can prebook workshop places alongside their tickets, or sign up on the day.
