Fold The Phone! Contorted Phone Box Appears At Old Street

A 'bus' folded in half
Talk about a bendy bus: Caspar Philips's bus sculpture is actual size.

Something strange is going down in east London.

A (very) bendy bus has got its back up in Spitalfields. A contorting telephone box at Old Street offers a different definition of a folding phone, while a nearby bench reaches for the skies.

At last! A bench that automatically dissuades anyone else from sitting next to you.

The sculptures are part of a campaign from Samsung, who continue their mission to make folding phones de rigueur again, and very clever it is too — look, they've got us writing an article about it.

We've heard of folding phones but this is ridiculous.

The bus sculpture in Bishops Square, Spitalfields (it's the size of a real single decker bus) is created by Caspar Philips and made out of recycled bits of real buses.

Meanwhile on Clapham Common you'll find another warped bench — plus a genuflecting lamppost, from designer Jem Hughes. In a London where temporary sculptures are now ten a penny, and quality varies, this lot are a heck of a lot of fun. Any chance we could keep them?

Kind of want this as a bedside lamp now...

The sculptures are in situ until the end of Saturday 27 July — so if you're in the area, be sure to go and get a snap.
