Massive Conker Championships On Hampstead Heath This Weekend

Do you have what it takes to be crowned conker champion?

This weekend it's your chance to find out, as the Hampstead Heath Conker Championships take place. This is one of the biggest conker knockout competitions in the world — in 2011 it broke the Guinness World Record with 395 participants.

Competition is divided into five categories: under 5s, 5-7 year olds, 8-13 year olds, 14-17 year olds and 18s and over. The winner of each category receives the coveted Golden Conker — rumour has it these are more valuable than Oscars — and a certificate to commemorate their achievement.

The tournament — put on by the City of London Corporation — has been running for 18 years and is officiated by an incredibly official and important sound Conkermeister.

Contestants who fancy their chances should head to the Parliament Hill bandstand on Hampstead Heath this Sunday 6 October by 2.30pm to sign up. The competition is free to enter, and don't worry if you forget your own. Conkers will be provided.
