Two of the titan-iest titans from the world of tennis will appear together at the O2 next summer, for an exclusive talk ahead of 150th anniversary of the Wimbledon Championships.
On Sunday 27 June 2027 — the eve of next year's AELTC Grand Slam — Billie Jean King and John McEnroe take to the stage for Champions in Sport. Champions in Life, a celebration of their starry careers on and off the court.
With 56 Grand Slam (and nine Wimbledon Singles) titles between, these two are as big as it gets. King is a trailblazer in the game, renowned for her 1973 'Battle of the Sexes' win over Bobby Riggs, and for founding the Women's Tennis Association (a story that was later made into a Hollywood film). Says King: "Anytime John and I get together, it is a lively and engaging conversation."
McEnroe has mellowed since his days as a sweary whippersnapper tussling against Bjorn Borg (a chapter of tennis lore also since made into a Hollywood film) but, as the voice of BBC's Wimbledon coverage, has a reputation as an ace raconteur — and will no doubt serve up some doozies at this one-off afternoon.
