If, like us, you've avoided this Baker Street bar thinking 'Wetherspoons in a tourist area? No thanks', then mend your ways.
The Metropolitan turns out to be a charming and characterful place. It's built into the old headquarters of the Metropolitan Railway, whose route still runs under the building as the Metropolitan line.

This grand hall is festooned with Metropolitan memorabilia — from decorative ceiling crests to framed Underground posters.

Otherwise, the bar subscribes to the usual Wetherspoon formula of zero music, zero sport, lots of ale taps and a funky carpet.

It's not exactly a place to take a date, but the Metropolitan Bar is far more pleasant than we'd anticipated.
