Not so much a pub with a kitchen as a kitchen with a pub, the Chamberlayne is steakhouse first and drinking den second.

That's not to say it's not a convivial place to unwind without a slab of dead animal on the table. The space is well divided, with plenty of drinking tables at the front and the white tablecloths to the rear. An open-plan kitchen you can practically walk into guards the space between the two.

The drinks selection is pretty impressive. This being a foodie place, the wine list is extensive — more than 20 reds to pair with your choice of steak is exceptional. The craft ales are well chosen too, with Beavertown and BrewDog featuring prominently. A strong if unplayful selection of cocktails completes the mix.
