Real ale abounds in this unfussy faux-Tudor inn, with gallons of cask to sup from localish breweries including Westerham and Surrey Hills. Addiscombe's Claret & Ale isn't in the same league as nearby micropubs like Selsdon's Golden Ark or The Dog House in Beddington, but it is a shoo-in for cask drinkers suffering from Pride and ESB ennui. If a well-kept pint of bitter, a fistful of pork scratchings and the gee-gees is what the doctor ordered, this is just the tonic.
It was disappointing to note that, despite all the real ale it serves (and all the CAMRA logos plastered up), Claret & Ale doesn't do the CAMRA discount. Then again, prices already average well under a fiver a pint so maybe that's wishful thinking.
