The show has witnessed almost 400 murders to date, and we'll be bound there are a few more to come in the new stage show.

Cue the creepy theremin music — Midsomer Murders is coming to the stage.

The long-running whimsical murder mystery first hit TV screens in 1997, with John Nettles playing DCI Tom Barnaby, a sharp-witted detective living in a rural idyll that's regularly blighted by the fact everyone insists on killing each other. Almost 30 years — and 140+ episodes — later, a Midsomer body count reckons there have been more than 388 murders in and around the fictional county of Midsomer.

There'll be a few more corpses to add to the pile, following the announcement of Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger's Drift, a new stage show based on the TV show, and Caroline Graham's 1987 novel of the same name — which led to the ITV series. Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger's Drift tours the UK from the end of this year until spring 2026, and its inaugural leg is at Richmond Theatre in west London from 24 October-1 November 2025.

Though John Nettles, and his character of Tom Barnaby were replaced in 2011 by the actor Neil Dudgeon, playing DCI John Barnaby (see what they did there?) the stage show sees the return of the original Barnaby, as well as his trusty sidekick Detective Sergeant Gavin Troy. Nettles himself won't be playing the role this time around. To be fair, he's already seen more than his fair share of murders.
