"Apparently there are 250 babies born every minute; productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita can't be far behind."
So opined the Guardian in 2019, about Jamie Lloyd's adaptation of the Lloyd Webber blockbuster musical about the good-at-bloody-everything Argentine Eva Perón. As it transpires, Evita hasn't been staged in London since — the truth is, it left us for almost six years — but musical fans will be thrilled to hear Lloyd's much-vaunted take will now come to the West End this summer, running from 14 June-6 September.
Though the dream team (Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Jamie Lloyd) remains, the venue this time is not Regent Park's open-air stage, but the less rain-prone Palladium — which, handily, Lloyd Webber himself owns.
Tickets for Evita go on sale Monday 20 January, but only to those signed up for priority booking and to Lloyd Webber's Box Five Club. Don't cry if that doesn't apply to you — general booking opens on Thursday 23 January at 11am.
Evita, London Palladium, 14 June-6 September 2025.
