As if! The trend for spinning 1980s/90s movies into stage musicals (Hello Back to the Future, Sister Act, Heathers, Mrs Doubtfire...) continues — as an all-singing, all-dancing Clueless comes to the West End early next year.
Opening on 15 February 2025, Clueless: A New Musical adapts the 1995 film about popular Beverly Hills High student and matchmaker Cher Horowitz and her quest to make over her awkward new friend, Tai, setting her up with the hottest boy in school. The 1995 movie — which starred Alicia Silverstone in the lead role — was a modern spin on Jane Austen's Emma, and so readapting it again feels like a natural move.
At this stage, the cast hasn't been announced, but we do know that Clueless' original writer, Amy Heckerling, has written the book, and that KT Tunstall of Suddenly I See fame has penned the music. That's So Fetch! Oh hang on, that might be another movie-turned-musical we're thinking about...
Clueless: A New Musical, Trafalgar Theatre, booking now open for 15 February-24 June 2025
