Though a sequel to The Breakfast Club was never meant to be, fans of the 1985 coming-of-age classic will be clenching their fists in excitement at news of a stage show opening in London next spring.
Devised by Leeds-based Phoenix Dance Theatre, Sincerely, The Breakfast Club reimagines the John Hughes film — about a group of adolescents forced into a Saturday detention — as a contemporary dance work that "reveals how shared vulnerability can break down stereotypes and create moments of genuine connection."
Like the movie, the stage show will be set in a school library, and feature five disparate characters, all harbouring their own desires and insecurities. Unlike the film, they will dance quite a lot.
The pop-rock soundtrack — which famously featured Simple Minds' Don't You (Forget About Me) — will be eschewed for new music composed by Marc Strobel.
Sincerely, The Breakfast Club, Sadler's Wells East, 28 April-1 May 2027. General tickets on sale from 16 November 2026.
