The London Eye Is Becoming A Hotel...For One Night Only. To Some Very Lucky People
A mock up of how the pod will look

The London Eye may have hosted over 60 million visitors since it opened in 2000, but as yet, no one's ever spent the night up there.

That's about to change: on 17 May, winners from a recent competition from TripAdvisor Rentals and Wayfair will get to stay overnight in one of the big wheel's pods (see mock-up above — including lashing of in-vogue houseplants).

The pod will stay still at the top of the Eye as the winners sleep in it, although they'll be let down for breaks (so easy on the complimentary champagne, guys). To be honest we doubt they'll be doing much sleeping.

It's a superb idea, and has set us wondering about what other London landmarks would be fun to spend a night in. There are already a number of adult sleepovers everywhere from the Natural History Museum to London Zoo. But how about other glass-covered experiences: sleeping beneath the canopy of Kew's Palm House (steaminess guaranteed) or snoozing in the London Aquarium's shark tunnel (nightmares guaranteed). Marketing people — get your thinking caps on.
