Yesterday (17 March) marked the last day that many of London's museums and galleries will be open to the public during the coronavirus pandemic.
Tate kicked things off by announcing the closure of all its galleries. By the end of the day, plenty of others followed suit. Here's a list of the major London Museum and Galleries that have announced closures:
- Barbican Centre
- British Library
- British Museum
- Design Museum
- English Heritage sites
- Guildhall Art Gallery
- Imperial War Museum
- London Transport Museum
- National Army Museum
- National Portrait Gallery
- Natural History Museum
- The Postal Musem
- RAF Museum
- Royal Academy of Arts
- Royal Museums Greenwich (open until 19 March)
- Science Museum
- Tate (Modern and Britain)
- Victoria and Albert Museum (South Kensington and Museum of Childhood)
- Wallace Collection
- Whitechapel Gallery
Some institutions have said they are shut until at least 1 May, while others have put no end date on their closure. Check online to find out info on smaller museums and galleries, but in all likelihood they are shut too.
