Whoever first decided to combine our favourite vices — coffee, vodka, sugar — into one delightfully decadent drink was a (slightly evil) genius. The rumour mill is constantly churning, but London bartender Dick Bradsell never actually identified the young model who asked for a drink that would "wake her up, then f*ck her up".
However it came into being, this highly caffeinated ambrosia is now a firm favourite on cocktail menus the world over. No surprise then that there's now a four-day festival dedicated to all things espresso martini. Mr Black Espresso Martini Fest debuted last year, and was such a hit with Londoners that the coffee liqueur merchant has brought it back.
As well as £6 espresso martinis from 100 of London's best cocktail bars, your £10 digital festival pass gives you the chance to get one for free, so long as you're quick about it.
