First things first: Afternoon Tea Week falls this month (12-18 August 2024), meaning you've got even more reason/excuse to indulge than ever. Mark the occasion with one of the following:

And if you're still hungry after all that, here's what's new in the world of afternoon tea this month:

Afternoon tea at Brixton Prison

As we reported in July, you can now enjoy afternoon tea inside the walls of Brixton Prison. The Clink restaurant, which is staffed by prisoners working towards professional qualifications, serves a menu of finger sandwiches, plain and fruit scones, and cakes such as a raspberry and ruby chocolate eclair, and a citrus meringue tart.

If you go for this one, check the strict security requirements and dress codes before you arrive. As you might expect, no phones or cameras are allowed inside.

Afternoon tea at The Clink, Brixton Prison. £37.50 per person. Available alternate Fridays.

London Eye Afternoon Tea at the London Eye Lounge Bar

Tuck into finger sandwiches, scones and cake overlooking the London Eye and River Thames, with the Houses of Parliament in the background. The London Eye Lounge Bar — located inside the building behind the rotating wheel — offers a traditional afternoon tea setting, with the added bonus of waving to the people on the Eye's pods as they pass the window.

Items on the menu include smoked salmon, and cheese and onion sandwiches, a truffled sausage roll, plain and fruit scones, a mini Victoria sponge, and a chocolate eclair. Gluten-free and vegan options available.

London Eye Afternoon Tea. From £49 per person. Available from 5 August 2024.

Roald Dahl's The Twits Afternoon Tea at County Hall

London Marriott Hotel County Hall brings Roald Dahl’s book The Twits to life through a playful afternoon tea experience, in partnership with The Roald Dahl Story Company. Menus are available for both adults and children, with twists along the way. Items include a new take on Wormy Spaghetti (cucumber 'worms' and cream cheese sandwiches), Mrs Twit's Bird Pie (chicken, leek and ham) and a culinary exploration of Mr Twit’s beard (!).

Sweets are inspired by the Muggle-Wumps and the Roly-Poly Bird. As for the scones — they're either buttermilk or Marmite, but you won't know which until you try them. Good luck.

The Twits Afternoon Tea. £65 adult/£45 child. Available from 15 August 2024.

Back to the Future Afternoon Tea at the Cumberland Hotel

Note that the DeLorean isn't actually present in the restaurant

Great Scott! The Cumberland Hotel has launched a Back to The Future The Musical Afternoon Tea, transporting you to the town of Hill Valley. Tuck into Mcfly's slider burger, Mayor Goldie Wilson's hot dog, the DeLorean pulled pork burrito, E=MC2 mac and cheese toastie and Marty's crispy shrimp tortilla.

The sweet part of the menu includes Doc's brownies, Biff's apple cobbler and George's fruit macarons. Wash it down with Lorraine's mini milkshakes and Marvin's berry iced tea.

Back to the Future Afternoon Tea. From £45 per person. Available now.
