The Old Crown Pub Rebrands For The Crown

A New Oxford Street pub has had a right royal makeover to celebrate the release of The Crown series 3.

The Old Crown's hanging sign now shows Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as portrayed by Olivia Colman. Inside, one wall of the pub is covered in framed stills from the new series. You can even get a commemorative coaster. It's all done with Netflix's blessing, for mutual benefit.

It's a bold, yet confusing change for the pub. Dropping the 'Old' from its name for the purposes of this promotion puts it in possible confusion with The Crown (ironically an older looking pub) a few doors away. There's yet another Crown on Seven Dials, just round the corner.

The pub now finally has its own name on the outside.

Placing the Colman-Queen on the hanging sign makes it the third pub in central London (we reckon) to feature a living person. The others are the Duke of York (Prince Andrew) in Fitzrovia, and the Lord Moon of the Mall (that bloke who runs Wetherspoons) on Whitehall.
