Londonist Asks Someone Random Questions: Arthur Smith And Phil Nice

Londonist asks someone some random questions. This time it's a two-for-one, with Balham-based broadcasting legend Arthur Smith, and Phil Nice, who's appeared in everything from Mr Bean to Broadchurch. Together, they are Fiasco Job Job, and their 40th anniversary sell-out Edinburgh show OOF! comes to Soho Theatre in April.

Most annoying Tube line?

Arthur Smith: The one that endlessly repeats "See it. Say it. Sorted" i.e. all of them.

Phil Nice: The Jubilee Line. I don't like its name. I don't like being deafened in some tunnels by screeching wheels. And I don't like some of the announcements: "The next station is Westminster — change here for Buckingham Balace and the Houses of Barliament."

If you could live in one London museum, which would it be?

AS: The Natural History Museum because the dinosaur there is an old mate of mine.

PN: The Sir John Soane's Museum in Lincoln's Inn Fields. It is extraordinary and really quite weird.

Best thing two people can do together in London?

AS: After you’ve been to the National Portrait Gallery go to Trafalgar Square and laugh at all the tourists taking selfies. Then climb up Nelson's Column.

PN: Sit in the window seat of a café or restaurant and wave at passers by, especially tourists, in the hope that they'll wave back. The most waves back over a certain period is the winner. I once got a whole bus load in Edinburgh.

Favourite bit of Balham trivia?

AS: It has the UK's first ever diagonal road crossing.

PN: Arthur Smith.

Last thing you encountered in London that made you go "OOF!"?

AS: When I met with Phil Nice and he did a massive fart.

Arthur and Phil aka Fiasco Job Job perform OOF! at Soho Theatre Thursday 3-Saturday 5 April. Tickets on sale now.
